In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Today, our hearts weigh heavy as we gather to remember Syed Shahid Ali, a man whose life story is one of passion, resilience and unwavering faith. From the neighborhoods in Lahore and Karachi to New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Georgia and ultimately Florida- his journey was nothing short of remarkable.
His connection with the Divine was reflected in his actions. As Allah says in the Qur'an, "Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding." Shahid found those signs not just in the vast universe but in the intricate workings of electron beams and the technological wonders he contributed to. He had over 20 technical patents filed during his time as an inventor at the iconic AT&T Bell Labs in Murray Hills, New Jersey.
His love for his family mirrored the love of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for his Ummah. The joy he found in the innocent laughter of his grandchildren, the wisdom he shared over a game of chess and his unwavering support on and off the field as a proud “Dadabu” to his grandchildren are memories we'll hold close to our hearts.
The suddenness of his departure is a poignant reminder that "Every soul will taste death" (Qur'an 3:185). Yet, in our grief, we remember that our bonds with our loved ones are not broken by death but are simply transformed.
Shahid’s life was a radiant beacon of hope, a testament to the words of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "The best among you are those who have the best manners and character." His legacy of brilliance, humility and boundless love will continue to inspire generations to come.
As we bid him farewell, let us find comfort in the words of Allah, "Indeed, those who have said, 'Our Lord is Allah' and then remained steadfast – the angels will descend upon them, [saying], 'Do not fear and do not grieve but receive good tidings of Paradise, which you were promised.'" (Qur'an 41:30)
May Allah grant Syed Shahid Ali the highest ranks of Jannah and grant his loved ones Sabr (patience) and strength during this testing period. Let us all remember him, his beloved wife Shama, his sons Faisel, Raheel and Suhail, his grandchildren, and all his family members in our sincere prayers.
Join us for his Janazah at the Islamic Society of the Tampa Bay Area this Tuesday, September 19th. There will be a viewing at 12 noon, Janazah prayer at 2pm, and burial at 3 pm. May we all be reminded of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment.
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un (Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return).
